In this video tutorial we show you how to undo deletes and to go back into history and restore pages and posts.
Note that on some editors, like Divi and Enfold, we HIGHLY recommend saving important pages as a template before making major changes. See Divi Tutorial - Saving a Page Template - Video and Enfold Tutorial - Creating Templates - Video. With these themes, because they use their own editor, it is possible to permanently and irretrievably delete content on a page. And while we do run regular backups, they are network-wide backups, used in major system failures, and we are unable to restore a single, standalone page from those backups.
What we have in WordPress is the ability to un-delete pages and also to do different restore points from the edit page.
- Edit a page
- Make sure that your revisions tab is checked - go to Screen Options in the top right, click that, and make sure there's a checked box by revisions.
- Scroll to the bottom of your edit page, and you'll see there's a Revisions tab.
- Click on a restore point, which will bring up a dialog box. Everything in green is new and the everything in red is what you would delete if you restored from that point.
- Move the slider to see all the different changes and restore points.
- When you find the point that you want to restore, click on the blue Restore This Autosave.
- Update the page.
Your page may not have a revision history, which is especially common with Divi and Enfold themes because they use different editors. For those themes, we highly recommend saving the templates/layouts before making any major changes to a page. If the page has not been saved via one of those methods and you do not have a revision history, then you'll have to rebuild the page from scratch. If you need some visual help, you can try to enter in the page's URL on Archive.org's WayBack Machine, which randomly takes screen captures of web pages across the internet.
If you accidentally delete a page, click on Pages in your left-hand admin menu, then click on Trash - these are all of the items that have been deleted. Hover over the page that you want to restore, and click the restore link.
